Sierra Vista "Soup-er" Bowl Food Drive
Sierra Vista vs. Hunger
January 26-30, 2015
January 26-30, Sierra Vista will be hosting a "SOUP-ER BOWL" to collect canned and other non-perishable foods for the Settlement House.  The Settlement House helps provide food and clothing for needy families in our area.  Bring your food items to your classroom and place them with the Super Bowl team you would like to win the actual Super Bowl- the Seattle Seahawks or the New England Patriots.  Each class will bring their food items to the multi-use room and place them under their favorite teams' sign.  Let's see if we can predict the actual winner before the game!  The football team with the most cans wins!  In the end, everyone wins because we will have helped needy families in the Corona Norco area!
Teacher of the Year!
Congratulations to our "Teacher of the Year"....Ms. Danieri
Ms. Danieri teaches TK at Sierra Vista.  We would all like to congratulate her on being nominated and are so excited that she will be representing The Sierra Vista community!

The Sierra Vista Cougar Cubs would like to take you on a scenic tour of our wonderful school…

As you drive down Corona Avenue, in the heart of Norco, you may have to slow down and wait for the rooster, chicken and the new babies to cross the road.  When you pull into our driveway and step out of your car you will be greeted by our family of goats who reside on the hill at the edge of our campus.  The friendly smiles of our 500 students, their parents and our 48 staff will impart a warm feeling as you make your way onto campus.

If you arrive in the morning, you will see our students out on the playground running laps for the 100 Mile Club, a program which encourages students to stay active both physically and mentally.  The children receive a stick for each lap they run, with the goal of receiving a T-shirt at 25 miles and ultimately, a gold medal for running 100 miles over the course of the school year.

As morning turns into afternoon you will find some of our A.M. kinders still at school, busy practicing speaking, listening, reading and writing in English.  They are being taught by our English Language Specialist who is certified to focus specifically on the needs of these students.  Working in a print rich environment, they are immersed in English through stories, guided reading and writing activities which give them time to practice their sight words and grammar.

After dismissal, about 100 students make their way to the playground to sign-in for the after school program.  They have a stretch break, snack and then spend time in small groups working on homework with their after school tutor.  On Mondays and Wednesdays, language arts practice is built into the program and Tuesdays and Thursdays are math days.  On Fridays you will see these students engaged in art projects, cooking and other fun, hands-on activities which serve as enrichment for them.

We know that all children love their school and at Sierra Vista, we do too.  We love the rural setting and the friendly community that surrounds our campus.  Our goats and horses make our school a unique and wonderful place to learn and grow.  We invite you to come, visit and take in all of the qualities that make Sierra Vista unique.

This month's Life Skill is Responsibility

-Complete all of your class work and homework
    -Think before you act
    -Think before you talk
    -Fix your mistakes
