Spring is upon us, and with the change in seasons comes the states testing and accountability exam. Our second through 6th grade students will be taking the California Standards Test the last few weeks in April and the first week in May. All year long our students and teachers have worked hard to prepare. Not so much preparing to take the test, but preparing for success in in school and in life by learning to read, write, compute, and solve problems. I am proud of each and every one of our students who daily come to school, put forth tremendous efforts, and strive to better themselves through education. I welcome the test as a public measure of all of our efforts.
This year, as in others, we will be motivating our students to "try their best on the test". All we can ever ask is that students put forth 100% effort when assessed. During the assessment window, we will have a daily attendance incentive. Each child who has perfect attendance for the days of testing will receive a raffle ticket. This year we will be giving away two Kindle Fire tablets to students with perfect attendance. In addition, there will be lots of prizes raffled off to students who demonstrate test taking strategies and effort. All prizes will be awarded at our CST afterparty assembly in May.
We will be kicking off the testing season this year with a motivational assembly where we will pump students up to "try their best on the test". Joining us this year is the Corona High School Pep Squad who will be encouraging our students to work hard and take their time# Students will be informed of the prizes available this year, and reminded that all students who get a perfect 600 score will be taken to lunch in a limousine some time in the fall.
It is a fun and sometimes hectic time of year. You can help by making sure your children get enough sleep each night, and come to school prepared to test. Talk positively about their efforts on the exam, and encourage them to "try their best on the test".

Sincerely,

Dr. Dietrich
