    Welcome to First Grade!

We are so happy to have you be part of your child's educational experience.

School supplies such as copy paper, dry erase markers, glue sticks,  erasers, paper towels, and hand sanitizer are always welcome! All supplies will be shared with the first grade community so please do not label anything with your child's name.

     Homework
Homework and book bags are sent home on Monday. The book bag comes back to school daily. We read and practice with these books everyday. The homework folder with the weekly homework packet should be returned on Friday with all of the work completed. If you know that your child will not be attending school on any Friday, please turn it in on the previous Thursday for credit.

     Resources to Help Your Child
We are working on building sight words, reading fluency, and understanding what we have read.
Please feel free to visit the following website where students can log in to access grade level books with comprehension quizzes.  Students can log in at home by going to www.kidsa-z.com/main/login. Our students will be enrolled into this program by the end of August.  The teacher username for Mrs. Hedrick's class is ebeth.  Mrs. Poyar's username is rpoyar.

We are also working on building speed and efficiency with addition and subtraction facts. The following free website, Math Magician, gives children an opportunity to practice taking timed tests.  If your child completes a level with 100%, print out the the certificate so that we can celebrate his or her achievement in class. www.oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/mathmagician/cathymath.html If you have trouble opening this page go through google.com and type in math magician.

The Department of Education seeks to have every teacher certified in the area in which they are teaching. If this criteria is met, the teacher is "Highly Qualified".
