I hope you all had a great weekend! As we go into this last week of school before our holiday break, we will be finishing off a couple of units and starting some new ones. This week we will be greatly focusing on our writing conventions. As I have been going through their writing I have noticed that many students need support in the area of writing conventions, this includes word usage, punctuation, sentence structure, capitalization, etc. Our class intervention will focus on these heavily as we continue to work on developing their writing skills. We have finished our Wonder unit; one that they all enjoyed greatly, and they were all assigned a culminating project. For this they have the choice of working in groups or on their own, and they have their choice between five activities. They will also continue to work on their Time Machine Essay for Egypt in class, but should also be working on their writing at home. I am looking forward to a great last week before our break, and can’t wait for our Sixth Grade Holiday Breakfast this Friday. Thank you to all who have donated already and for helping us make this a success for our sixth graders! Hope you all have great week, please email me if you have any questions or concerns!

Week Two was absolutely awesome! I am amazed by the level of conversations your sixth graders are already having and I can't wait to watch them grow this year! As we finish our Growth Mindset Unit that we have been working on for the past two weeks, I am excited to see them using the language in the classroom, even more excited to hear them say how effective this has been for them, and even more excited to hear stories shared by some of you of how you have also heard them applying what they are learning in class at home. Thank you to all of you who have joined Class Dojo and Remind 101, we are still missing a few, so please make sure to join, it is a great tool for communication! This week we will have 100 Mile Club and PE, days have been hot so please make sure your sixth grader is staying hydrated! I look forward to another great week with this awesome bunch! As mentioned at PIN night I will update my website every Sunday night and on here you will find any upcoming events, the latest and greatest in our learning journey, as well as homework, upcoming test, and projects for the week! It is my goal to ensure constant communication with you all, and this is one of the ways to stay connected with our classroom! The first week of school we went ahead and set up our notebooks, and they were introduced to Cornell Notes. This is the note taking method that we will be using all year long, and is a great one that will get them ready for seventh grade. We will start our Ancient Civilization Journey with Early Man. This civilization will set the foundation for the rest of amazing civilizations we visit throughout the year. Social Studies is a subject they will really enjoy this year!
    Writing
In writing we will be working on opinions and claims as I set up a foundation for Argument Writing. We start with simple activities that will allow them to focus on various parts of Argument Writing, and then we will put them all together when we begin writing our first Argument essay. We kicked it off last week with "I Wanna Iguana" which will teach them the difference between an opinion and a claim! They are really enjoying this activity and I look forward to continuing it this week!
