• Welcome back to school Heroes. I am very excited to start our year of learning and celebrating student successes. Here at VanderMolen Fundamental Elementary we focus on student achievement.  There are many ways during the school year that your child will have opportunities to demonstrate this success. To name a few: Science Fair, Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, State Projects, Math Drills, California Modified Assessments, and much more! We know this cannot be achieved without your support. I encourage you to read with your child each night for 20 minutes. As Jacqueline Kennedy said, "There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all.”

To help your child prepare for school please have them bring a backpack, several pencils with erasers and a 1” binder with lined notebook paper. These materials will be used all year long so, please remember to refill and replace as needed. Any other materials will be provided within the classroom.

Because responsibility is a very important skill in life, each student will be required to fulfill homework on a weekly basis. The homework policy will consist of a reading log, a written summary and spelling assignments. I understand that independent work can be rather challenging which is why these assignments are achievable at each student’s ability level.

I would like to invite you and your child to attend the parent information night on Thursday July 11th at 6:30. You will get to see your child’s classroom, view our technology tools/lessons and have an opportunity to ask questions. You can find an updated calendar and a daily schedule on my website. To locate this web page first you need to go to the district URL address www.cnusd.k12.ca.us. Then click on the tabs to find our school’s name. This will lead you to my personal web page. If you would like to contact me by phone please call the school at (951) 739-7120 or email me at jshires@cnusd.k12.ca.us

    Thank you
