    Dear Parents,

Hello and welcome to 3rd grade. My name is Elaine Smith and I have the pleasure of teaching your child this year.  Third grade is an exciting and fun time and you will be amazed at your child’s growth academically as well as socially. I believe that all children can learn and be successful in school. My goal is to work with you and your child to see that it is a successful year.  I am pleased to be a part of VanderMolen where everyone is working together to create wonderful learning community.

Just a few reminders about the policies at VanderMolen: the school day begins promptly at 7:45 and ends at 2:10.  Attendance is crucial to your child’s academic progress. Your help in getting your child to school everyday and on time is appreciated.  Homework is assigned nightly beginning the first day of school.  All students will have a homework log that they will bring home everyday. Please sign your child’s homework sheet daily.  According to District policy, third graders may have up to 30 minutes of homework nightly, but I strongly recommend an additional 20 minutes of silent reading.

During Parent Information Night, I will discuss classroom procedures, school policies and 3rd grade standards and curriculum.  I will also address any other questions or concerns you may have. Parent Information Night will be held on Thursday, August 6th beginning at 6:00 p.m. I look forward to seeing you at that time but if you have any questions prior to that date please do not hesitate to contact me at (951) 739-5820 or via email at emsmith@cnusd.k12.ca.usI look forward to a wonderful year.

                            Mrs. Smith
