"'Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,' he told me, 'just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.'"
-F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
"Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!"
-Arthur Miller, The Crucible
"A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down, and commence living on its hint. What I began by reading, I must finish by acting."
-Henry David Thoreau
“We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering - these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love - these are what we stay alive for.”
-"John Keating" (character from the film Dead Poets Society)
Greetings Mustang Students and Parents!
My name is Mr. Frank Mata and I am excited to be a Language Arts instructor at ERHS. My goal is to try and create as many ethical opportunities of success as possible for you or your child. Each year of teaching I learn something new about this profession, just as the student learns something new as they progress through each year at ERHS. I look forward to working together in making this happen! Please feel free to contact me for any questions and concerns. Now let's have a great year!
Student Recommendation Letters
Every year students approach me about writing them letters of recommendation. As I thoroughly enjoy writing these letters, here are a few tips to help me in writing yours.
1) With any teacher you choose to write you your letter, we always want to make sure it is a teacher with whom we have made a sincere connection- with them or their content. Let's be sure this is the case.
2) If you've decided to choose me to write your letter, come prepared with the necessary information needed: the institution and/or company's requirements, suggested topics, or areas of focus, your "Brag Sheet" (you can obtain one at your counselor's office), and any other information necessary for me to write the best letter possible.
3) (optional only) Peach-Os Gummi candy and/or a Dr. Pepper... this always helps! :)
