    OCTOBER
    CAL STATE APPLICATION PROCESS IS OPEN OCT. 1ST THROUGH NOV. 30TH
    FAFSA APPLICATION IS OPEN OCT. 1ST THROUGH MARCH 2ND  

    q  Further develop essays for your applications.

    q  Review for the SAT (sample questions available online at www.collegeboard.com).

    q  Attend college presentations, visit campuses, or take a virtual tour online.

    q  Go to college fairs.

    q  Find out names of former students attending colleges that interest you.

    q  Ask teachers for recommendations.

    q  Begin filling out college applications.

    q  Check application deadlines.

    q  Request any additional financial aid applications your college or financial aid program may require.

    q  Register for the College Board’s CSS PROFILE application at www.collegeboard.com if you’re applying to a private college that requires it.

    Apply for your FSA ID at https://fsaid.ed.gov/ ahead of time so you can e-sign the FAFSA on the Web for faster processing.
    Complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov, You will need a copy of your parent's 2015 tax returns to complete the application.
     Plan to attend JFK’s Cash for College event Nov. 2nd that helps students with the FAFSA form and gives seniors the chance to win a $1,000 scholarship (both community college and four year college students qualify).

    q  Keep up your grades.

     

    NOVEMBER

    UC APPLICATION PROCESS OPENS NOV. 1ST.

    q  Take SAT Reasoning, Subject, or ACT Tests and/or know your scores.  Do you want your scores sent to additional colleges?

    q  If required, ask teachers to complete recommendation forms.  Provide them with a stamped,addressed envelope, and a recommendation letter worksheet with your info.

    q  If you are applying under an “early decision” program, you must submit the application now.

    q  UC/CSU application deadline is November 30th.

    q  Start applying for private scholarships. Some may have very early deadlines.

    q  Keep up your grades.

    DECEMBER

     

    q  Take SAT Reasoning, Subject, or ACT Tests if still necessary.  (JFK School Code: 054073) Last chance to take Tests for the majority of the colleges.

    q  Complete all applications for admission.

    q  Talk with graduates home from college.

    q  Get the Local Scholarship Packet and begin to fill out the application. Turn in Jan. 29.

    q  Listen to school announcements and check JFK website for scholarship opportunities.

    q  Continue to apply for private scholarships.

    Send your official SAT/ACT scores to all colleges that you applied to.  
    Send your first semester transcript to all colleges that you applied to.  See Mrs. Stewart for the request form. 

    q  Finish current courses strong—these grades post to your transcript!
