    This course is focused on the development of the student's ability to use the writing process in response to a literature-based curriculum. The course will integrate reading, writing, listening, and speaking.



    Language Arts 1A-1B Honors

    Prerequisite: Admission to Honors
    Program or identification as a G.A.T.E.student. For 1B a grade of "C" or better in Honors 1A

    This course is focused on the development of the student's ability to use the writing process in response to a literature-based curriculum. This course will integrate reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will experience a variety of styles with an emphasis on world literature.

    This course is focused on the preparation of students for college-level composition and language courses. This course involves college level reading material and subject matter requiring additional time in outside student preparation. The course will include preparation for the Advanced Placement test.

    Creative Writing/Literature

    This course is designed to help students develop skill in writing fiction and poetry. Students will study superior literary works as models for their own writings.



    Short Story

    Prerequisite: None
    Grades Offered: 11 - 12
    Semester Course
    Credit: 5 units

    The short story will be studied as a particular genre in terms of analysis and evaluation of all its elements. Writing, listening, and speaking activities will be based on the short stories read. Students choosing to take the Short Story course receive general elective credit.



    Reading

    Prerequisite: Instructor Approval

    This course is designed for students who want to improve their reading ability.
