    COURSE DESCRIPTION
     
    UNITED STATES HISTORY INTRODUCES AND ELABORATES UPON FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES AND CONCEPTS IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY.  THE COURSE BEGINS WITH A BRIEF REVIEW OF UNITED STATES HISTORY FROM THE COLONIAL PERIOD AND ENDS WITH 19TH CENTURY.  THE COURSE THEN PROCEEDS TO EMPHASIZE 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN HISTORY.  THE COURSE IS TAUGHT ACCORDING TO CALIFORNIA COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS FOR SOCIAL STUDIES.  STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO ANALYZE HISTORICAL ROOTS AND EVENTS OF AMERICAN PAST AND CURRENT HISTORY.  STUDENTS WILL ALSO BE ASKED TO CRITICALLY EXAMINE HISTORICAL ISSUES AND FORMULATE WRITTEN RESPONSES THAT ILLUSTRATE THE ABILITY TO FACTUALLY SUPPORT THEIR ARGUMENT USING INFORMATION PRESENTED IN CLASS AND VARIOUS HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS.

    ASSIGNMENTS

    ALL WORK MUST BE TURNED IN ON TIME.  IF YOU ARE ABSENT, THEN IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SEE ME FOR MAKE UP WORK.

    MAKE-UP WORK (LATE)

    LATE WORK IS DUE BY THE END OF THE UNIT IT WAS ASSIGNED.  ALL LATE WORK (MEANING YOU WERE NOT ABSENT) WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED FOR HALF CREDIT.

    MAKE-UP WORK (ABSENT)

    IF YOU RETURN TO CLASS FROM AN ABSENCE ON THE DAY OF AN EXAM – YOU WILL STILL TAKE THE EXAM!!!  PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EXAM DOES NOT COUNT AS ONE OF YOUR 2 RETAKES PER SEMESTER.  UPON COMPLETION OF THE ABSENT MAKE-UP WORK, YOU WILL THEN BE ALLOWED TO RETAKE THE EXAM AND TURN IN YOUR MAKE-UP WORK AT THAT TIME.  ABSENT WORK WILL BE EXTENDED THE FOLLOWING CREDIT:

    FULL CREDIT – COMPLETE/TURNED IN BY THE END OF THE QUARTER IT WAS ASSIGNED

    HALF CREDIT – COMPLETED BUT NOT TURNED IN DURING THE QUARTER IT WAS ASSIGNED.  (IE. 1ST QUARTER ABSENT WORK TURNED IN DURING TE 2ND QUARTER)

    EXAMS

    IF YOU RETURN FROM AN ABSENCE ON THE DAY OF THE EXAM – YOU WILL STILL TAKE THE EXAM!!  EACH STUDENT HAS THE OPTION TO RETAKE (2) EXAMS PER SEMESTER FOR A HIGHER GRADE.  IF THE RETAKE IS LOWER, THEN THE ORIGINAL SCORE WILL STAND. 

    GRADING SCALE

    STUDENT GRADES WILL BE UPDATED BIWEEKLY IN “Q” GRADEBOOK.  TRADITIONAL 5 – POINT GRADING SCALE WILL BE USED:

    100-90% (A)          89-80% (B)                            79-70% (C)            69-60% (D)                            59-0% (F)

    DISCIPLINE POLICY

    1.       WARNING

    2.       DETENTION WITH ME DURNG LUNCH.

    3.       REMOVAL FROM CLASS TO AP OFFICE AND CALL HOME.

    4.       REFERRAL WITH POSSIBLE SATURDAY SCHOOL.
