Introduction

Welcome to our 2014-2015 6th grade class. I look forward to working with your child and getting to know your family. I have been an educator for 17 years, most of which have been in the 6th grade. Teaching, is what I've wanted to do since I was 5 years old. I continue to: love coming to work daily, working with my students, getting to know their families and making a difference in their lives.

This year, we have lots of new experiences ahead of us, including Common Core full implementation and SBAC testing. Along with those, your children will experience new technology practices and application, conceptual instruction and performance tasks, as well as, exposure to various forms of media and literature. They will need your support and mine, throughout the year to stay on task, to turn work in on time and to manage their assignments in an effort to turn in their absolute, personal best.

Please take advantage of my "Open Door" policy. I welcome parents to come in as a helper, to observe their child and to meet with me as often as needed, to ensure your child's success in my class. I truly believe that it takes a 'village' to raise a child and our support system is strongest, when my parents and I combine support to encourage 100% effort from our student(s).
I will be needing and requesting many supply donations throughout the year. Unfortunately, because of the volume of class projects, number of students and the lack of funds, we often run out of printer paper, pencils/pens, single-subject spiral notebooks, folders, colored constructions paper and dry erase markers. If at any time you can send in supplies, I would really appreciate it. I let needs be known as they occur, but the list above seems to be the definite items that we go through quickly. Thank you in advance for your contributions.

I am including my class email address and my cell number in this letter to assist you in contacting me whenever you need to. Feel free to use them. It is vitally important that you plan to attend Parent Information Night this year. I have quite a large amount of information to share, that you will appreciate having a 'heads-up' about. I look forward to seeing and hearing from you soon.
