Rosa Parks 2015- 2016 Teacher of the Year!Mrs. Jennifer Cerswell
It is an absolute honor being named the 2015-16 Teacher of the Year for Rosa Parks Elementary. I feel so fortunate to work at a school with such an amazing staff, and to be a part of such an amazing team.
Teaching is one of the few jobs where every day you have the opportunity to make an impact on someone’s life. However, as teachers, we are not the only ones who are making the impact. Every year I learn more and more from the kids who I have the pleasure of spending seven hours a day with. They become my “little” family and I get to watch them grow academically, physically, and emotionally. Along with amazing students always come amazing parents and siblings who have helped these kids to be who they are.
Every day of every year I try to find ways that I can make a difference in my students’ lives. Whether it is to turn a student who doesn’t enjoy reading into one who walks through the hallways with their noses buried in a book, to a student who can’t get their ideas on a page into one who I have to put a page limit on because they can’t cut off the ideas flowing from their minds, to my shy, quiet students into leaders of the class. My aspiration is to inspire my kids to break down the barriers that prevent them from seeing the potential that they truly have, and to be the person who they can turn to when they need an extra boost.
