How to disassemble the Otterbox Case for iPad 2 & New iPad

The Otter Box case consists of four pieces: outer shell, rubber bumper, front and back plastic covers.

    1. Grip the Otter Box with one hand and use the other hand to pry off one of the four corners of the outer shell.

The other three corners will come off very easily if you slide your hand between the outer shell and the rest of the case.

2a. The rubber bumper is the next piece to be removed. There are three rubber flaps (top, right side, and bottom of the otter box) that should be released before taking the rubber bumper off.

2b. Place your thumbs on the rubber bumper by the top flap, and separate the bumper from the front plastic casing. Continue moving to the right using both thumbs to separate the rubber bumper from the plastic casing until you have moved all the way around the device. (When you get to the home button stick a finger underneath the rubber bumper to remove it).

3a. With the case in your hands, rotate the case so that the right side is facing the sky. Place your fingers on the divots on the opposing sides of the eject button. Pull in opposite directions to begin the separation of the front and back plastic covers.

3b. Slide your fingers up to the corner connector. Apply pressure on the corner connector towards the face of the iPad (this is the hardest part) the connector will release and you can run your fingers between the front and back plastic covers to easily disconnect the rest of the connectors.

    1. Place the iPad into the back plastic cover of the Otterbox make sure you can read Otterbox at the bottom of the case.

    2. You should hear clicks and snaps to confirm the front and back are connected. Run back down the frame of the front cover with your thumbs to ensure the front and back covers are completely connected.

    3. Slide the iPad into the bottom of the rubber bumper. Cover the home button and run your fingers along the rubber bumper to make it flush with the plastic cover. Be careful of the three small rubber flaps on the bottom, right side, and top of the rubber bumper.

    4. The outer shell can be placed on either the back or the front of the iPad. Just make sure to click in each of the four corners onto the iPad.
