Corona-Norco Unified School District implements the 90:10 model. Students are taught the same rigorous Common Core State Standards (CCSS) aligned curriculum as in the mainstream classrooms with the only difference being the language of instruction. Students begin in Kindergarten with 90% of their instructional day in Spanish and 10% in English. Each year, Spanish decreases by 10% (never below 30%) and English increases by 10%. When students reach 4th grade, Spanish is 50% and English is 50% until 6th grade. In intermediate and high school, Spanish instruction continues for at least 30% of their instructional day.
Second language is learned through the following:
- Body Language
This allows students, particularly those in the primary years, to quickly learn and understand the new language.
