Isaac CerrosIsaac graduated from Centennial High School in 2016 and this is his 2nd year as an AVID Tutor. He was a part of AVID for 1 year (his senior year) and is extremely grateful to have been in the program. He is currently attending California State University, Fullerton and is working towards majoring in Mathematics. He believes that without the help and support he received during his time in AVID, he would not have been able to get into a 4 year college. He recommends to the students in AVID to really take advantage of the help the program provides to make sure you get the best opportunities the world has to offer.
My name is Alfredo Espiritu. I graduated from Centennial High School in 2017 and was in AVID for 5 years (4 in high school and 1 in middle school). The most memorable and rewarding time I remember in AVID was the junior college trip. It not only gave me insight into how college would feel, but also gave me an extra reason to keep pushing myself toward higher education. I am in my second year at Norco Community College. I plan to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona and graduate with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Liliana was involved in AVID for five years from Middle school to the end of her Senior year. She is an undeclared major at California State University Fullerton. Liliana was born in Pomona California. She enjoys anything that allows her to have fun! Lily loves helping students and most importantly is honored to be your next AVID Tutor at Centennial High School!

Miriam Martinez graduated from Centennial High School in Corona in the year 2014. She is currently on her fourth year at Cal State San Bernardino working on her BA in Social Work. She has been an AVID tutor since Jan. 2015 but was an AVID student herself in high school. She was in AVID all four years of high school which helped her learn what to expect in college. AVID helped Miriam a lot since she was the first generation in her family to go to college. Without AVID she would have had a difficult time attending college. AVID also helped her apply for colleges and scholarships. She is now grateful to AVID. She enjoys having the opportunity to be an AVID tutor and encouraging the students to do their best. On her spare time, she enjoys to go out on little adventures, listen to music, and try different foods/desserts.
My name is Itavi (eee-tah-veee) I graduated from Centennial class of 2016. I was in AVID for 3 years, starting my sophomore year up to Senior year. I now attend Cal Poly Pomona and I am studying Landscape Architecture to graduate in 2020 and become a licensed Landscape Architect to be able to give back to my community. I am very passionate about spreading positivity and lending out a helping hand to every student.
Katya graduated from Centennial High School in 2014. She was in AVID for two years (junior and senior year) and took many AP classes that really helped prepare her for college. AVID is the reason she is attending California State University San Bernardino and is working towards a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics and Pre-nursing. AVID helped Katya develop note taking and studying skills that she currently uses at CSUSB.
Katya is on her 4th year as an AVID Tutor at Centennial and has enjoyed every year. On her spare time, she volunteers at Corona Regional Medical Center and loves the experience she is gaining. She loves to spend time with her family and friends, going out to eat, shopping, and exploring different amusement parks (Universal Studios is her favorite)!
Heidi is a Centennial alumnus and has been an AVID tutor for four years at Centennial High School. As a product of the AVID program, Heidi is extremely grateful of all of the opportunities that AVID has offered her. She believes that AVID is the reason behind her academic success. One special thing
about this program is that both the teachers and the structure are all geared towards the success of its students. When Heidi was an AVID student, she felt welcome by her teachers and peers. She liked the fact that she was in a class where everyone had a set goal of going to college. Heidi is currently a
fourth year at the University of California, Riverside where she is working towards a Bachelor's of Science in Anthropology with a Minor in Education.
Jasmine graduated from Corona High School in 2014. She didn't have a chance to participate in the AVID program in high school but she deeply regrets it. After being an AVID tutor for 4 years she has had the chance to see how the teachers and structure can guide the students towards opportunities that will help them succeed in college. AVID has opened up her eyes to new possibilities that she wasn't aware of in high school. That is why she advises students to participate in the AVID program. She implements everything she encourages in the AVID program and she says it has “only benefited her academic journey.” The summer after graduation she started classes at Norco Community College where she received her Associate Degree for Transfer in Business Administration. In Fall 2017, she will continue her education at California State University, Long Beach where she will work towards her Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Management. When Jasmine isn’t at work or at school she enjoys going on adventures with her family and friends. Her favorite adventures involve food, live music, and puppies.
Noely graduated from Centennial High School in 2010. She was in AVID since the 8th grade and was so glad that she joined the program. Noely believes that she wouldn’t have known how to apply for college and what to do in the FAFSA if it weren’t for AVID. Noely loves math and will always do her best to help students understand it (and hopefully learn to like it). Noely recently graduated from California State University, Fullerton in Mathematics and Child Adolescent Development. Her next step is to start the credential program next year and will hopefully start teaching math really soon! Noely loves her family (including her dog),her jobs, friends, and especially coffee. If any of you ever need some advice about math, college, or anything in general, feel free to ask Noely!
