GATE: Garretson Elementary – Magnet Program

  • Garretson logo *All day long novelty, acceleration, depth, complexity, and differentiation taught in the magnet classrooms by GATE trained and certificated teachers. 

    *Group collaborative projects with peers of the same mind set

    *STEM activities during the school day.

    *A STEAM after school enrichment program

    *Dissections across the grade levels

    *Drama productions of Shakespeare and curriculum connected plays

    *National Honor Society

    *Opportunities for the Presidential Academic Awards

    *Community Career lectures to enhance understanding of college and career readiness and requirements

    *Math Projects

    *History Day projects (12 of the past 14 years have seen students go on to the state and national level of competition)

    *GATE family nights 4-6 times a year, focusing on diverse topics (science, history, poetry, music, etc.)

    *Community Outreach programs

    *High school science students are used as mentors in studying the scientific method

    *Enrichment activities are integrated into the school day every day

    *Field trips that enhance learning experiences

    *Opportunities to develop and run businesses and develop fiscal responsibility

    *Leadership service in student council at a higher rate of service than the general ed. population

    *Emphasis on musical education through band participation
