GATE: Lincoln Elementary
Kinder - 2nd: Although students are not assigned a GATE designation until 3rd grade, our primary teachers enrich potential GATE students through centers, choice work and enrichment homework and projects. In Kindergarten, it is likely you will see students working at STEM centers, and we are currently exploring the use of the OSMO program that introduces basic coding skills.
3rd + 4th: GATE identified students continue to have opportunities for enrichment through differentiated homework. In math, teachers may enrich lessons already mastered with performance tasks or projects and in other content areas, research projects, like Webquests are utilized. Several of the teachers provide time for GATE students to strengthen coding skills using Code.org.
5th+6th: Both grade levels offer a GATE rotation during PLCs. The opportunities range from STEM, to Math Field Day tasks, to technology...our 5th graders are finishing a rotation where they built websites based on Olympic sports. Last year, our school was able to apply funding for a 3 day robotics seminar for 4-6th grade.
School wide programs such as Memory Challenges/Public Speaking, Classical Book Reports, Science Fair, History Day and the Reflections program also opportunities for our students to be challenged.
If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact the principal, Mr. Brian Leedy.
