GATE: Ronald Reagan Elementary

  • Ronald Reagan logo We are pleased to announce the after-school GATE program for third through six grade students available to Ronald Reagan elementary students.  This program, led by our GATE Coordinator, will give students a challenging enrichment opportunity using project-based learning.

This school year our topic is urban farming.  Through inquiry-based research, investigative learning, engineering, data-collecting, and formulating conclusions, students will design a functioning urban garden on our campus. This year-long program will incorporate composting, recycling efforts and will culminate in a presentation for parents as well as the opportunity for all of Reagan’s students to experience the ‘fruits’ of their labor.

Students will learn and use research skills while working with informational text to design an urban garden. Scientific skills will be developed as they plan, test, evaluate and revise, making changes along the way in order to achieve growth in their garden. Students will use a scientific notebook to record data. This data will be used as they write their results and prepare for public presentations.
