GATE: Home Gardens Academy

  • Home Gardens logo Home Gardens Academy administrators, teachers, and parents recognize that gifted and talented students possess unique characteristics. The GATE program goals are to meet students’ intellectual needs, to motivate them to reach their highest potential, promote positive social-emotional skills, and to increase the application of critical thinking.  Home Gardens Academy’s GATE program is designed in such a way to meet the GATE goals by:

    • providing activities which are differentiated in nature and require higher-level, logical, and creative thinking (through added depth, complexity, novelty, and acceleration)
    • empower students to use technology and advanced research tools to enhance their learning
    • develop organization, independent study skills and social skills to enable them to work productively alone or with others
    • encourage students to set personal goals and to develop educational plans

Home Gardens Academy also offers ongoing art instruction with the opportunity for extension via the reflections program.  They are able to engage in exposure to college and career via Career day with Dad.  They are exposed to an array of hands on lessons conducted by dads who volunteer to share career information with students, as well as hands on activities related to their jobs.  Participation in leadership via our Diversity Den is also available.  In our Diversity Den, students explore relevant social causes, engage their peers in activities related to social justice, and participate in multiple drama productions throughout the school year.  As students mature into upper grades, they have the opportunity to delve into leadership roles via student council, ASB, and opportunity for participation in peer mediation via our Soar Squad.
