Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to VanderMolen and a new school year! I am very excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and I am looking forward to a happy and productive school year. This will be my fourth year as a regular classroom teacher after spending a few years at home with my children. Prior to my hiatus, I spent 9 years as a first and second grade teacher in Buena Park, as well as at Home Gardens in Corona-Norco. I have been married for 19 years to my husband, Rodney, who is a teacher at Sierra Vista. We have two daughters: Cierra (age 15) and Carly (age 12).
Students will be completing homework packets each week. The packets will be sent home on Monday and are due on Friday. First grade students should be spending approximately thirty minutes a night on homework. If your child continuously exceeds this time frame, please contact me.
It is very important that we work as partners in educating your child. Please be an active part in your child’s education by showing interest in the work they bring home. Remember to ask about their day and where their papers are. Provide a special place at home for your child to work and try to be there as a “resource” and “guide”.
I would like to remind you that this year, teachers will be taking part in Professional Teacher Time (PTT) every Wednesday. The purpose of the PTT is to provide professional teacher collaboration time for all elementary and intermediate teachers in the district. As a result, students at VanderMolen will be released every Wednesday at 1:10. Also, Thursday, July 8 is our Parent Information Night. I look forward to meeting you as we discuss what you and your child can expect for the coming year
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school (951) 739-7120. Once again, Welcome! I look forward to working with you and your child. Together, let us make this a wonderful school year.
