Students to Scholars
Dear Families and Community Members,
As I begin my first school year as Principal of Auburndale Intermediate School, I am energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our children. We will accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all children and providing supportive systems to assure they are met. By addressing school culture, setting high standards for teacher performance, increased academic expectations for all students and engaging the community, it is our goal at Auburndale Intermediate School that all of our students are college or career ready. We embrace the challenges of the future while we continue to cherish and celebrate the traditions of the past. Our remarkable staff, involved parents and committed students come together to make Auburndale Intermediate School a wonderful and unique place. I want to share some exciting things that are happening at Auburndale to improve your son or daughters educational experience.
We are implementing the new standards that have been adopted by the State of California, the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). These standards aim to provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. A great web site to learn more about the CCSS is www.corestandards.org.
Your Auburndale staff is working hard to refine our Professional Learning Community, commonly referred to as PLC. Our teachers meet every Wednesday for over an hour to share best practices, discuss current data, and provide strategic intervention based on the data we receive. These practices help us ensure that we are continuously seeking improvement, which is a great example for our students.
Academy Classes and Read 180
We have built special intervention classes into our master schedule to provide pre-view, review, or remedial instruction to help our students improve their academic performance in their regular classes and also assist them in gaining ground to reach grade level expectations.
AVID and AVID Excel
AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system that is designed to increase school wide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change. Students in AVID learn different techniques to assist them such as: SQPRS, Cornel Notes, WICOR and tutorials. For more information about AVID you can visit: www.AVID.org.
After School Tutoring
We have teachers, high school, and college students that provide tutoring in the multi-purpose room after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We have installed a robotics component to the elective wheel to engage students in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) activities that can carry on to high school and beyond. STEM based activities are proven to increase skills, performance and creativity in Mathematics and Science.
We wish your child a successful and exciting school year! We hope your visit to our website will give you a quick snapshot of life at our school. Please explore our links to find out more about curriculum, programs, and daily events at our School.
