While at CFIS, students will participate in engaging lessons that are connected to the California State Standards, they will also build study skills and explore extracurricular activities. All students will participate in the core subjects of language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science. Students will also participate in a variety of exploratory classes. These classes allow students to determine and pursue their academic areas of interest. Exploratory classes rotate each trimester and include classes in: woodworking, computers, drama, music, art, literature, or speech. During fifth period, students participate in Academic Support Class (ASC) which focuses on supporting core curriculum, particularly in the areas of literacy and mathematics. Each student participates daily in physical education. Students, throughout the year, engage in flag football, softball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, fitness, safety, and nutrition. This year students will learn how to use heart monitors to assist them in reaching their physical fitness goals. The Physical Education Program promotes teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, responsibility, and self-discipline through every activity and unit presented. Parent participation is strongly encouraged throughout the year. PTSA members donate their time and energy to enrich our students and staff. They do everything from fundraising to chaperoning dances, and their efforts contribute to overall school success. Every year, PTSA raises thousands of dollars for CFIS, and we all appreciate the time they take from their own families to help the CFIS family. If you have not joined PTSA, I encourage you to do so. Your small investment makes a huge impact on our students. Our staff is comprised of highly qualified individuals who are committed to the education of every CFIS student and we work together to ensure students receive the individual attention they need to experience success in intermediate school. Our families become partners as we bring in community organizations and businesses to support our efforts in making our students successful. Gina Boster, Ed.D.
