School meals provide students well-balanced, healthy meals that are required to meet science-based, federal nutrition standards.
We must not only provide our students with healthy food but with food they will enjoy.
Healthy menu items are offered each day at all Corona-Norco sites.
o Meals must provide 1/3 of Recommended Dietary Allowances of protein, Vitamin A,
Vitamin C, Iron and calcium.
o Meals contain no more than 30% of calories from fat, less than 10% from saturated fat, and no Trans fat.
o Meals are served in age-appropriate portions.
At the elementary level students have a choice of 4 different entrée items.
At the secondary level students choose from 17 entrée items.
Vegetarian options are available daily at each grade level.
Garden bars at each elementary site offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Secondary students are also offered a variety of seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables daily.
Studies have shown students who eat school meals provided through the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs are more likely to be a healthy weight. (Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, August 2003)
