CNUSD Raises Funds for a Great Cause

Each year Corona-Norco Unified School District, along with millions of people in over 20 countries, raise much n eeded funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the American Cancer Society Relay For Life Movement.

Corona-Norco USD District Office joined forces once again with a goal to surpass last year's funds raised to support this great cause. Through fundraisers such as raffles, and friendly department breakfast competitions, the District Office staff far surpassed this year's goal of$7,500 raising $9,790.44.

Everyone participated in some way, from creating this year's theme, a one-eyed, one-horned purple cancer eater, to donating time and/or money  to reach a department goal.

"This year's Relay For Life event was a phenomenal experience," said Anthony Warnecke. "Not only are we helping to combat a dreadful disease that affects all of us, but it helps build a sense of community within our district walls and within our departments."

Highland Elementary also took part in this great cause hosting their own Super Hero themed Relay for Life Celebration.

With the dedication and leadership of teacher Heidi Rowe, Highland Elementary staff, students and community have raised over $40,000 over the last 7 years to save lives and raise cancer awareness. Students went as far as presenting to the Rotary Club Board, to having lemonade stands to raise funds towards this important cause.

"I am so proud of our students because every year the event gets bigger and bigger, and every year the students do more. They have taken this on their own...they are our future!" said Heidi Rowe.
