Dual Language Immersion Program Inaugural Class of 2015

connection Thirteen years after enrolling in the District's first Dual Language Immersion (DLI) class at Washington Elementary, four students will be the first DLI graduating class at Roosevelt High School having reached their goal of  becoming bilingual, biliterate and bicultural.

The Dual Language Immersion program offered its first class in 2002 at Washington Elementary and due to its success and popularity, the program is now offered at Garretson Elementary, Harada Elementary, Washington Elementary, Home Gardens Academy, River Heights Intermediate and Roosevelt High School.

The program offers students the opportunity to learn both the Spanish and English language in a proficient manner, promoting critical and creative thinking while challenging mental development. Students enrolled in the program have consistently demonstrated proficient and advanced achievement results in all content areas.

"I am extremely proud of our DLI students, teachers, administrators and parents as we reach this historical point in our district!" said Nivia Gallardo, Director of  English Learner Services. "As we graduate our first DLI class, I can only think about all the hard work that each has put into making this moment happen. Our students are now prepared to be successful bilingual, biliterate, productive citizens fully prepared for the 21st Century."   #CNUSDFutureReady
