The much anticipated annual El Cerrito Middle School "Salutes Our Veterans" event took place on May 13th, 2015. Hundreds of staff, students, and community members filled the multipurpose room to pay tribute to Veterans in the community. Veterans were greeted in the parking lot and received a red carpet welcome by hundreds of enthusiastic students.

During the event, students had the opportunity to sit down with Veterans and learn about their experiences in the Armed Forces. The students had the opportunity to ask questions and attentively listened as Veterans shared stories about their military experience.  " I learned a lot today," said Steven Hoang, 8th Grader. "The Veterans experienced a lot such as graduating boot camp, traveling the world, meeting great people and learning different cultures."

This event not only had a lasting impact on students, but on the Veterans. "Many of us will walk out of here standing a little bit taller because of what we've done here today. It is an honor to be called back to this event every year," said Sergeant Major Steve Dickerson, Retired Marine Corps.

A special thank you to Mr. Steven Case and Ms. Jessica Johnson for all their time and dedication in coordinating such an important event. If you would like more information about El Cerrito Middle School Salutes Our Veterans event, please contact Jessica Johnson at jgjohnson@cnusd.k12.ca.us.
