A SCHOOL NEWSPAPER TEACHES STUDENTS JOURNALISTIC VALUES

Many students probably believe that reporting the news is a simple matter of writing down facts or opinions in a literate and coherent manner.  Our school newspaper helps them discover that journalists and newspapers must also make value judgments by encouraging them to explore the six core values of journalism from the National Association of Journalism Editors:

  1. Balance/fairness/wholeness
  2. Accuracy/authenticity
  3. Leadership
  4. Accessibility
  5. Credibility
  6. Judgment
