Transitional Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. Each unified school district must offer transitional kindergarten classes for all children eligible to attend. A child who completes one year in a transitional kindergarten program, shall continue in a kindergarten program for one additional year. A kindergarten continuance form is not needed for transitional kindergarten. A child is eligible for transitional kindergarten if they have their fifth birthday between (EC 48000[c]):
November 2, 2007 and December 2, 2007 for the 2012-2013 school year.
October 2, 2008 and December 2, 2008 for the 2013-2014 school year.
September 2, 2009 and December 2, 2009 for the 2014-2015 school year (And accordingly for each school year after.)
Who can attend Transitional Kindergarten in 2012-2013?
Students whose birthdays fall between November 2 and December 2, 2007, according to current law,must attend Transitional Kindergarten in 2012-2013 or wait to enroll in Traditional Kindergarten classes during 2013-2014. All other students whose birthdays fall between September 2, 2007 and October 31, 2007 can be sonsidered for enrollment in Transitional Kindergarten, if space allows.
Where will the Transitional Kindergarten classes be held?
For 2012-2013, CNUSD will host sixteen Transitional Kindergarten classes. School have been organized into host schools and partner schools.
McKinley Elementary will be a Host School in 2012-2013.If a child's home school is not hosting a Transitional Kindergarten and is a partner school, the child will attend the host school that has been identified for that partner school.
Will transportation be provided?
Transportation will be provided for the students whose birthdays fall between November 2, 2007 and December 2, 2007 and live more than 2 miles from the host school.
