HOW DO WE SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS?

In the EdSource Study titled, "Gaining Ground in the MIddle Grades:  Why Some Schools Do Better," they found that high achieving schools "extensive use of multiple early academic intervention, collaboration between subject-area and intervention teachers, required intervention strategies, and voluntary academic support correlated with higher student achievement" (2010, pgs. 1-2).  Citrus Hills Intermediate School is committed to providing a strong educational program which will ensure student success in achieving their college and career goals.

We continue to offer a variety of structures to support our students.  To foster better communication and support for our students we have organized our school into 7 general education interdisciplinary teams.  Each team is comprised of a Language Arts, Math, History, & Science teacher who share a common group of students.  At a basic level, teams utilize their common planning time to plan and coordinate team activities (e.g., homework, tests, schedules, special projects), intergrate curriculum, and monitor student success.

Lunch Academy is a mandatory academic assistance program assigned to students who demonistrate a consistent inabailty, or unwillingness to complete assigned class and home work.  Students who are assigned Lunch Academy report to the designated classroom for the first 20 minutes of lunch to complete missing work.

After-school study hall is available every Tuesday and Thursday for one hour.  A teacher will be present to assist students with questions regarding their homework.  Attendance can be voluntary and in some cases involuntary.

The Subject Area Intervention Classes will take place through the year during our Acadmeic Support Core class for students who haven't demonstrated mastery of key concepts yet.  Teachers will identify students knowledge of the key concepts and standards taught throughout the year in each of the four core subject areas using common formative assessments (DFAs).  Based on the results of these CFAs, targeted intervention will be provided for students in need of the additional time and support.

Academic Saturday School provides our students with four hours of additional item to catch up on missing assignments.  This opportunity is available on many Saturdays throughout the year and can be assigned to students by their parents, teachers, and/or administration.

With your support, and the continued dedciation and hard work of the Citrus Hills' students, teachers, and staff, we will continue to meet the needs of all our students and better prepare them for success after Citrus Hillls.  We are committed to ensuring the success of every student at Citrus Hills by providing them with the time and opportunity to be successful.  We are excited to offer these services to help our students achieve to their highest potential.

Thank you for your continued encouragement and support as we strive to meet the needs of all our students.
