CNUSD Choir Camp Filled Summer with Songs

CNUSD Hosts First Summer Choir Camp!
Posted on 07/30/2021

CNUSD held its first annual District-wide choir camp for 7th-9th grade students this past week and it was a great success.

“This was an amazing event,” said Corona High Choir Director Amy Eden. “These kids got to sing and laugh together all week. We have been missing this during the pandemic. Kids who arrived shy and a little nervous were smiling and performing with confidence together by the end of the week. Giving kids the opportunity to practice and perform what they love is essential! I hope we can do this again every summer.”

The free week-long camp of more than 75 students was led by six CNUSD music teachers and 20 high school madrigals student volunteers.

“It was very fun,” said 7th grade El Cerrito student Aimee Pecore. “I enjoyed the games a lot, and I also enjoyed singing on stage, because I have a lot of stage fright and I enjoy it better when I am with other people.”

The choir of students from more than 16 CNUSD schools came together for a culminating performance for their families Thursday evening.

“It was a really cool experience, and it helped with my anxiety from quarantine,” said Santiago 9th grade student Devilynne McKitterick. “I am getting used to being around other people again. For me it was great to meet new people, learning their interests, and learning how to sing!”
