San Diego, CA - Students from Auburndale and Raney Intermediate Schools recently traveled to San Diego to compete in the RECF Western Regional Aerial Drone Competition Finals for middle schools, representing Corona-Norco Unified School District with pride throughout the event.
The competition challenged students in several areas, including teamwork missions, piloting challenges, and autonomous drone programming. Students worked together to complete flight tasks, navigate obstacle courses, and program drones to fly independently with accuracy and precision. The event gave students an opportunity to apply STEM skills in a fun, hands-on environment while learning the importance of communication, problem-solving, and collaboration.
Auburndale Intermediate’s drone team, the Robodogs, led by teacher Peter D’Agostino, wrapped up an impressive season by earning fourth place in the state of California. Named after the school’s Bulldog mascot, the Robodogs spent the season building their skills, supporting one another, and representing their school community well at every competition.
Programs like the RECF Aerial Drone Competition help prepare students for future opportunities in STEM-related fields while building confidence and real-world experience. The experience also supports CNUSD’s Strategic Plan objective of College and Career Readiness by helping students develop the knowledge and skills needed for college, future careers, and success in an increasingly competitive global economy.
