CORONA – Meet the three Santiago High School Seniors making an impact to the traditional tutoring model.

When school sites were forced to shut down due to the pandemic in March 2020, it left many students reaching out for academic help. One of those students affected was Santiago High School Senior, Shree Reddy. Shree saw first-hand the struggle with Distance Learning and access to educational resources with herself, her brother, and her cousin.  With school sites unable to provide in-person, one-on-one educational assistance, Shree knew something had to be done for struggling students. She had the idea to launch an online tutoring service to aid students learning at home. She enlisted the help of her two best friends, Santiago students Kaitlyn Park and Sanya Dhama. After countless hours of brainstorming and planning, the start of GoToTutors.org had come to fruition.

“These girls did this completely on their own. They didn’t tie it to anything they had to do,” said Santiago Principal, Dr. Seth Bond. “To be a service to other people, that’s extremely important here at Santiago. I couldn’t be prouder of these three girls.”

Since its beginning, GoToTutors.org has served over 600 students and has logged over 720 tutoring hours. The free online service provides peer-to-peer tutoring in a wide range of subjects, from multiplication to SAT prep. The team is continually looking to expand their subject offerings, including tutoring in Spanish.

“With our Spanish Initiative, we began to reach out to students who spoke Spanish and took Spanish AP classes,” said Sanya. “We started a new program for students whose first language is Spanish, and we’re able to communicate to parents and assist students.”

Shree hopes the GoToTutors service will leave a lasting impact on the community for years to come.

“We’ve filed a 501c3 for Nonprofit status. We’re expanding nationally and internationally, but our focus will always be with CNUSD.”
