Innovation on Display at State Fair

The California State Science and Engineering Fair was held on Saturday April 12th and Sunday April 13th at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. This year 881 students from 351 schools across the State competed, submitting 701 projects across 21 categories.


The following CNUSD students participated in the event.

Junior Division:

Sophia Lai - Philistine Rondo School of Discovery - 2nd Place, Materials Science

Shreyansh Medatati - Dr. Augustine Ramirez Intermediate School - 5th Place Honorable Mention, Environmental Engineering

Vienna Zhou, El Cerrito Middle School - 5th Place Honorable Mention, Mathematical Science

Our Junior Division students, Sophia, Shreyansh, and Vienna have also been nominated for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Innovators Challenge (JIC).

CNUSD has two projects advancing to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) to be held May 10 - 16 in Columbus, OH following the Riverside County Fair.

Ava George, a sophomore at Centennial High School, with her project titled: A Novel Approach to Fall Prediction and Prevention: Integrating Machine Learning and IoT for Elderly Safety

Rayyan Khalique, Trevon Nguyen, and Dylan Patel, also all sophomores  from Centennial High School, with their group project titled: Combining Accessibility with Machine Learning: Utilizing Machine Learning to Create a User Friendly Medical Application to Process and Detect Histopathological Images of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
