Rylee Blade’s high school cross country career is nothing short of extraordinary. A Journey of Unprecedented Improvement
Rylee’s early years showed great potential, with a solid 17:13 time as a freshman and a 33rd-place finish at the state meet. By her sophomore year, she dropped to 16:39, finishing 3rd in the state. But it was her junior year that truly launched her into the spotlight, as she claimed the state title with a 15:32 performance. Her senior year, however, was where she truly made history.
In 2024, Rylee broke barriers by running under 16 minutes four times in a single season, an achievement never before seen in the sport. Her times—15:47, 15:20, 15:47, and 15:53—set new standards and showcased her remarkable consistency at the highest level.
Historic Achievements
Rylee's senior season was marked by a string of record-breaking performances. She set course records at the Cool Breeze Invitational, Woodbridge Invitational, Inland Empire Championships, and Big 8 League Finals. Her 15:20.3 at Woodbridge became the fastest 3-mile time ever recorded at the event, and she ran the 3rd-fastest 5k time at Woodward Park, the venue for the state championships, with a 16:31.3.
She also became the first athlete in history to win the Cool Breeze Invitational three times, the Inland Empire Championship four times, and the Big 8 League Championship three times. These feats solidified her legacy as one of the best in the sport.
National Recognition and Future Potential
Rylee was ranked as high as #2 in the nation in 2024 and holds multiple records, including the Santiago High School record, the Riverside County record, the Inland Empire record, the California state record, and the U.S. 3-mile record at 15:20.3. Alongside her athletic success, she has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA, earning a full scholarship to Florida State University.
Looking ahead, Rylee has the potential to become a force on the international stage. With her work ethic and talent, she’s well-positioned to compete at the 2028 Olympics, if she stays healthy and continues her upward trajectory.
