NORCO, CA – After 39 years in education and 26 years of dedicated service to the students, staff, and families of the Corona-Norco Unified School District (CNUSD), Superintendent Dr. Sam Buenrostro has announced his retirement, effective July 1, 2025.
Dr. Buenrostro has been a steadfast leader in CNUSD, guiding the district with a commitment to academic excellence, student success, and community engagement. Under his leadership, the district has expanded innovative educational programs, enhanced student support services, and strengthened partnerships that have positively impacted thousands of students and families.
"It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as Superintendent of CNUSD,” said Dr. Buenrostro. “This district is filled with dedicated educators, committed staff, passionate students, and a community that truly values education. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have led alongside such incredible individuals. My focus for the remainder of the school year will be ensuring a smooth transition so that the district remains well-positioned for continued success.”
The CNUSD Board of Education extends its gratitude to Dr. Buenrostro for his leadership and service.

As the District looks to the future, the Board of Education will soon initiate the process of selecting a new leader for CNUSD. This transition will be handled thoughtfully, ensuring the next Superintendent will uphold the district’s core values and build upon the foundation of excellence that defines CNUSD.

The Corona-Norco Unified School District is located approximately 45 miles southeast of Los Angeles in western Riverside County. CNUSD consists of thirty-one elementary schools, eight intermediate/middle schools, five comprehensive high schools, a middle college high school and three alternative schools. The district serves over 53,000 students in the diverse communities of Corona, Norco, and Eastvale. CNUSD is the largest school district in Riverside County and the ninth largest district in California.
