Temescal Valley Elementary, Susan B. Anthony Elementary and John Adams Elementary named Bright Spots for strong third-grade reading results

Norco, CA - Three Corona-Norco Unified School District elementary schools are being recognized nationally for strong third-grade reading results.

Temescal Valley Elementary, Susan B. Anthony Elementary and John Adams Elementary have been named Bright Spots by The 74, a national nonprofit education news organization. The recognition highlights schools whose third-grade students demonstrated exceptional reading achievement, outperforming expectations based on community socioeconomic factors.

The project looked at 2024 data from nearly 42,000 public schools serving approximately 3 million students nationwide. Instead of simply looking for schools with the highest reading scores, The 74 looked for schools where third graders were doing better than the data predicted. Just over 2,100 schools nationwide were named Bright Spots.

For CNUSD, it is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the students, teachers, staff and families at all three schools and the work they put into reading every day.

Helping students become strong readers is a priority throughout the District and is reflected in CNUSD’s Literacy at Grade Level Power Objective. Reading opens the door to learning in every subject, and those skills grow through the combined efforts of students, educators and families.

The Bright Spots designation is based specifically on 2024 third-grade reading and poverty data, but the results give these three school communities plenty to celebrate.
