Students hit the track for the box car races!
Corona, CA – Excitement and anticipation filled the air as CNUSD third grade students eagerly waited to put their speed to the test! On March 28th, our students participated in the exciting Box Car Races at Santana Park which has become a highly anticipated event students look forward to as they enter third grade. The event was hosted in collaboration with the Corona History Association allowing students to learn about the city’s past.
Students arrived with their handcrafted box cars, ready to race, but the day was about more than just speed; it was a day of learning and community engagement where students explored history and creativity. Before the races began, students engaged in interactive activities, including building their own miniature wooden race cars and small plant holders. In addition to hand-on activities, students explored the stories of Corona’s founding fathers, learning how their contributions shaped the city we know today.
As the flag was waved, the race began! Students zoomed down the track, showcasing the creativity and craftsmanship of their box cars. Laughter and smiles filled the air, adding to the fun and energy of the event. The Box Car Race has become a quickly growing favorite in the community, drawing families and community members who gathered to cheer on our students.
This event provided students with a unique, hands-on way to connect with Corona’s history while enjoying a day filled with excitement, friendly competition, and countless smiles!
