Student Voice. Leadership. Mentorship.
EASTVALE, CA – The Corona-Norco Unified School District has officially launched its first-ever Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, marking a historic step in elevating student voice across the District. The inaugural meeting was held today at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, bringing together a group of about 60 student representatives from every CNUSD high school.
To make sure every student voice is represented, the council includes students from across grade levels, programs, backgrounds, and activities. The group was intentionally formed to reflect the diversity of CNUSD’s schools and communities. Superintendent Dalia Gadelmawla emphasized the importance of having a wide range of voices at the table to ensure the council captures the full spectrum of student experiences across CNUSD.
“This is more than just a series of meetings; it is a platform for you to elevate student voice, develop as leaders, and engage in mentorship that will help shape the future of our school district,” Superintendent Gadelmawla wrote in her welcome message to the council.
During the first meeting, students shared their thoughts on representation, belonging, and the importance of student voice in shaping the future of education. These conversations align with CNUSD’s mission to support every student’s academic, social, and emotional growth while preparing them to thrive in a diverse global community.
At the close of the day, students reflected on their experience. Kevin Carmen, a student from Orange Grove, shared, “It’s been a good day. We learned a lot about the new superintendent and it was fun to hear her story and to learn about what other students have to say about their experiences.”
Maiya Beanes, Centennial High, added, “I think it’s really cool that she is doing this. I hope by the end of the year, the things we talk about in this room really reach the District and make a positive impact that is felt by us at the schools.”
The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council will continue meeting throughout the school year to serve as a bridge between students and district leadership, while also developing student leaders who can make a positive impact on their campuses and beyond.
