SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

The Board of Education will be conducting a Special Meeting during the week of Dec. 28. The purpose of the special meeting will be to review the public health metrics and their potential effects on the reopening of our elementary schools in January.

CNUSD families and community will be notified via the CNUSD Facebook and Twitter page once the meeting date and agenda are finalized.

WELCOME OUR NEW ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT

On Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020 the Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Reggie Thompkins as our new Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Support. Dr. Thompkins is currently serving as Associate Superintendent at Riverside County Office of Education over Student Programs and Services. He has over 27 years in education with experience as PE Teacher, Coach, Title I Coordinator, Assistant Principal, High School Principal in two districts, Instructional Support Admin Director, and Education Services Assistant Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent and a stint as Board Appointed Acting Superintendent. In addition he served as President of California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIF-SS) Executive Board, and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Executive Board simultaneously.

“I'm coming with a wealth of experience from multiple districts that I hope will add to an already strong learning environment,” said Dr. Thompkins. “My personal mantra has always been ‘let’s do what's best for our students and staff,’ and I intend to do just that here in CNUSD.”

Thompkins is scheduled to begin on January 2021 and we are excited to welcome him back to team CNUSD. Welcome Dr. Thompkins!

- January 19: Learn about the healthcare field and opportunities.
- January 26: Learn about the construction pathway opportunities at CNUSD.

These CTE informational sessions will be held via the Parent Center Facebook Live at 6 p.m. (English) and 7 p.m. (Spanish). Click here to learn more.

DEVICE DISTRIBUTION

Is your student in need of a device? You may still request a District-issued Chromebook for your child to utilize throughout the schoolyear.

If you would like to request a device, you may do so via Q Parent Connection. Click here for a step-by-step video tutorial. Parents who submit a request can expect to receive an email with further pick-up instructions.

BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE UPDATE

As we transition to a hybrid learning environment, students may bring their personal device to campus as part of our Bring Your Own Device option to utilize throughout the school day. BYOD allows students to connect their personal device to District WiFi. BYOD devices need to be configured at home, instructions can be found at www.cnusd.k12.ca.us/byod.

Students are not required to participate in BYOD.

As a reminder, District Hotspots are for home use only. Hotspots brought to campus could negatively impact the available school WiFi.

PARENT CONNECT/STUDENT CONNECT SCHEDULED SYSTEM MAINTENANCE

We wanted to share that Q will be unavailable on Tuesday, December 29 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. due to a scheduled system maintenance.

2021-22 OPEN ENROLLMENT/TRANSFER WINDOW NOW OPEN

CNUSD is now accepting transfer requests during the Open Enrollment window for the 2021-22 school year through January 15, 2021. Online applications are for intradistrict transfers only! All transfers must be completed on a computer, not a mobile device.

If you live outside of the CNUSD boundaries, you must obtain an interdistrict transfer permit from your home district and submit it to the CNUSD Student Services Department.

Decision letters will be uploaded in Parent Connect under Student Documents no later than May 15, 2021. Note: Transfer requests are granted based on space availability.

CNUSD SCAM CALL ALERT

We have been made aware of a scam phone call reaching our community stating they are CNUSD conducting a school funding survey to help provide additional funding. Please note: This is not a call from the Corona-Norco Unified School District.

2020-21 BUS PASS APPLICATIONS FOR K-6TH GRADE REMOTE/TRADITIONAL STUDENTS

Transportation Services is now accepting bus pass applications for the 2020-21 school year. Bus Pass applications will be accepted for K – 6th grade students only.

In light of the current COVID-19 virus, and in order to protect the health and safety of our customers and staff, we strongly encourage families to apply for your student’s bus pass online on the district website.

Our office will be available for in person applications by appointment only. Please schedule your appointment on our website at www.cnusd.k12.ca.us/transportation or by calling (951) 736-8233.

CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Career Technical Education provides 7th-12th grade students unique hands-on opportunities to learn technical skills and prepare them for a variety of career pathways. There are over 35 pathways to choose from including aviation, culinary, floral, and construction.

Students have the opportunity to potentially earn an industry certification before graduating high school while enrolled in a CTE pathway.

MEASURE GG COMMITTEE VACANCY

The CNUSD Measure GG Citizens' Oversight Committee is searching to fill the vacancy of a Senior Citizen Organization Member. Committee Members are required to oversee the expenditure of bond money for the construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, or replacement of school facilities at CNUSD.
