September 1st Board meeting presentation: School Safety

Out of an abundance of caution, CNUSD will be delaying the physical return of all students for the 2020-21 school year due to the recent elevated health risk conditions of COVID–19 in Riverside County.

As a result, parents electing a physical return to school under the traditional option will begin the year with remote learning.
This is subject to change in the event  we receive additional directives from the Governor’s Office.  In the meantime, with direction from the Board of Education, CNUSD management will continue to work in collaboration with the Corona-Norco Teachers Association (CNTA) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA) to plan for a safe physical return of students, including the consideration of a blended hybrid model, as soon as public health conditions permit.

This plan of action has not been reached lightly. All possible options for opening our schools in a safe manner have been thoroughly considered. The only safe option at this time is a temporary full remote learning option. It is our intent to move to a physical return when it is safe to do so.

What does this mean for your child?

The start date remains the same for B-Track on August 3, 2020 and Traditional on August 11, 2020. All other year round tracks will remain in a remote learning environment. In the coming weeks you will receive details from your site principal regarding the 2020-21 school year.

1. Traditional School/ Remote Learning: Students will physically attend school and receive instruction from their assigned classroom teacher once public health measures allow us to safely return to the school site. All safety protocols will be enforced as outlined in the 2020-21 School Opening & Safety Plan.

  • Remote Learning (*Note - This learning environment has been activated for the start of the school year for within the traditional school model and will be utilized at any point in the school year COVID-19 conditions call for school closures/non-physical attendance.)  All students shall receive instruction and content five days a week by their classroom teacher in a 100% remote format. All content and instruction shall be mandatory, graded, and aligned to grade-level standards. Support for English learners, students with disabilities, foster students, and homeless youth shall be provided.

2. Virtual Learning: Parents who are not comfortable with their students returning to a traditional school model this year had the option to choose our Virtual School options for fully online curriculum (TK-12th grade) delivered by a CNUSD teacher. This instructional option is a commitment of a trimester (elementary) or semester (intermediate or high school) at minimum. Learn more here.

It continues to be our goal to return to traditional instruction as soon as it is safe for our students, staff, and families to do so. We understand that parents may have additional questions, we ask that you visit the District’s FAQ located on the District’s website for the most up-to-date information. Parents should also expect to receive additional details in the District weekly newsletter and from your school site.
