What is a School Nurse?
A school nurse protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. A school nurse bridges health care and education, provides care coordination, advocates for quality student-centered care, and collaborates with other educational professionals to allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential (National Association of School Nursing, 2018 ). A School Nurse must have a baccalaureate degree, a registered nurse (RN) license, and a School Nurse Credential to practice in California.

The primary role of the School Nurse is to support student learning. The nurse accomplishes this by implementing strategies that promote student health and safety.
