Ben Franklin Student Learns About Universe With Griffith Observatory Lecturers

CORONA – Griffith Observatory Lecturers met with Ronnie, 4th-Grader from Franklin Elementary, and Dr. Odipo, Franklin Principal, to discuss the universe.

Ronnie approached Dr. Odipo, with a growing concern: he was losing sleep as he thought about the universe expanding. Dr. Odipo wanted to address Ronnie’s curiosity, so she reached out to Griffith Observatory for answers.

Griffith Observatory lecturers Dr. David Reitzel and Allen Ault meet with Dr. Odipo along with Ronnie over Zoom. The lecturers shared the science of the universe expanding and were able to ease his curious mind. Ronnie was able to ask various questions about the universe and planets.

“Some of these concepts, even people with Ph.D.’s, have trouble thinking about because the whole universe expanding,"  said Dr. Reitzel. "It's big so don't feel bad if you and your friends and your classmates have trouble thinking about some of this stuff, that's natural. That's the same thing the scientists go through. We're all going through that, so don't let it trouble you. Let it inspire you to keep learning, and that's what we do.”

Thank you to the Griffith Observatory and Dr. Reitzel and Mr. Ault for taking the time to meet with Ronnie and Dr. Odipo.
