Board Approves Transition of Todd Academy to TK-6 Elementary

Todd Academy will transition to TK-6 Elementary to address increased enrollment, future growth, and capacity issues.
Intermediate students (7th & 8th grade) will shift to El Cerrito Middle School beginning the 2022-23 school year.

On Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021 the CNUSD Board of Education approved a recommendation to move the 7-8 academic programs from Todd Academy to El Cerrito Middle School, effective the 2022-23 school year.

In October 2021, a boundary committee consisting of parents, teachers, classified staff and administrators began the process of analyzing how to address the increase in enrollment, future growth, and capacity issues at Todd Academy.

After in-depth review and considerations, the Committee reached a recommendation to shift intermediate students (7th & 8th grade) to El Cerrito Middle School beginning the 2022-23 school year.

The committee determined this recommended change of returning Todd to a TK-6 program will stabilize the educational programs at Todd Academy and allow more room for expected growth, thereby allowing students to attend their home school. The Committee noted the change would free up nine additional classrooms, more space for students within school buildings, playgrounds, and field areas.

This change will also provide our intermediate students with a comprehensive school experience, affording students additional educational offerings and resources, such as Career Technical Education (CTE), performing arts, visual arts, technology, and social emotional learning supports.

Bussing options to El Cerrito Middle School will be available to all 7th and 8th grade students in Todd Academy’s current boundaries.

Any current Todd Academy families interested in sending their junior high students to any other intermediate school, rather than El Cerrito next year, CNUSD’s School Transfer Request Period is open now through January 15th. More information on transfer requests can be found here.
