Full-Day Kinder Starting 2022-2023 School Year

NORCO – The Corona-Norco Unified School District (CNUSD) is excited to announce starting in the 2022-23 school year, it will offer full-day kindergarten and expand its age eligibility for Transitional Kindergarten (TK).

CNUSD previously offered half-day kinder classes to its students entering primary school; however, in alignment with its Strategic Plan priority of academic excellence, the District is excited to provide families with full-day kindergarten.

A full-day program will afford children the academic learning time needed to prepare for mastery of primary grade reading and math skills while also allowing for time to address developmental needs.

“Research has shown full-day kindergarten programs benefit children in many ways,” said CNUSD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Lisa Simon. “From increased school readiness, higher academic achievement, additional time for socialization, greater school attendance, and faster gains in literacy and language skills, we know the move to full-day kindergarten is the best opportunity for our young students.”

Additionally, CNUSD will offer Universal Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to all four-year-olds to attend a two-year kindergarten program by 2025. For the 2022-23 school year, TK will be offered for students who turn 5 between Sept. 2 and April 2.

“With more children participating in TK, kindergarten will no longer be the first school experience for many children, which can play a huge role in igniting improved school socialization skills at a younger age,” said Dr. Simon.

TK and kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-23 school year opens March 1st. Parents are encouraged to reach out to their local school for more information or visit www.cnusd.k12.ca.us/kinder to enroll.
