Corona High Woodshop Students Compete in 2023 LA County Fair

Corona High School’s Industrial Wood Technology students submitted 15 furniture projects for the LA County Fair competition.
The Cabinetry, Millwork, and Woodworking pathway provides learning opportunities for students interested in preparing for careers in cabinet construction, millwork, finish carpentry, and furniture making for both production and custom products.

Corona High School’s Industrial Wood Technology students submitted 15 furniture projects for the LA County Fair competition this month and brought home first place for the Youth Arts and Crafts - Wood Division category.

The Danish System of Judging is used at the competition. The judging process is based upon established standards of quality for each type of project. In this system, each exhibit is judged according to how well it meets those standards rather than how it compares with the other exhibits.  This makes it difficult to obtain 1st place unless the student themselves met the criteria needed for such an award.

Congratulations to our Corona High Panthers!

Corona High School has been competing in the LA County Fair, Riverside Industrial Education Expo, So Cal Fair, and CA State Fair for 2 decades now, 20 years to be exact.

Corona High School's woodshop program, however, has been competing in these competitions since the mid-1960's under the direction of the legend himself, Mr. Dave Burdick.

"I remember being in woodshop in high school, having my dad as the teacher at San Jacinto High School, competing against students from Corona High School," said Kyle Whittenburg, Corona High Woodshop Teacher. "It's very special that I am teaching in the same room my dad learned woodshop in. I was lucky enough to take over teaching at CHS when my dad's wood teacher, Dave Burdick retired back in 2003."
