About Dr. Buenrostro

Dr. Sam Buenrostro is the current Superintendent for the Corona-Norco Unified School District (CNUSD). He has served in numerous roles over the past 23 years in CNUSD, including Deputy Superintendent in Human Resources and Instructional Support. Dr. Buenrostro has been a resident of Corona for over 32 years.

Dr. Buenrostro obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Chapman University, his Master’s from Cal State San Bernardino, and his Doctorate in Organizational Leadership at the University of LaVerne. Dr. Buenrostro is married to Sandra, a Corona High graduate and personal counselor. They have three children--Eric, Luis, and Samantha.

Dr. Buenrostro taught Spanish, English as Second Language, and served as head soccer coach at Santa Ana High, Riverside Poly, and John W. North. In 1991, Dr. Buenrostro led Santa Ana High School to a CIF championship and national recognition. Dr. Buenrostro served as Assistant Principal and Principal of Centennial High School for 12 years. During Dr. Buenrostro’s tenure, Centennial High School received numerous accolades, including numerous CIF Championships, Riverside County Model of Excellence awards, National PLC School distinction, named one of America’s Best High Schools, and a California Golden Bell. Dr. Buenrostro was named the 2009 CNUSD and Riverside County Principal of the Year.

Dr. Buenrostro places high importance on community service and healthy living. Over the years he has provided service as a member of Corona Chamber of Commerce, Corona History Association, Vice President University of LaVerne Alumni Association–Doctoral Program, Circle City Kiwanis, Rotary International, Lions Club International, and Boy Scouts of America. Dr. Buenrostro is passionate about living life with a purpose, the power of people, and inspiring others to make a difference.
