Math Field Day 2024

CORONA - On Saturday, March 2, 2024, nearly 600 students from 28 schools spanning grades 5 – 8 converged on the campus of Corona High School to compete in Math Field Day. With support from over 60 coordinators, over 75 high school volunteers from Centennial, Roosevelt, and Santiago High School, math TSAs, and a small group of parents, the competition was the smoothest yet.

On Saturday, March 2nd, the CNUSD data center will be shut down for facility modernization. Service will be intermittent Saturday March 2nd through Sunday March 3rd. During this time resources like Q, QSS, Cisco Phones, School Wifi, School Internet, MyCNUSD, and Workspace will be unavailable.

2024 District Spelling Bee Winners

NORCO - At the 2024 CNUSD Spelling Bee, Avijeet Randhawa won first place in 12 rounds, by spelling the final word, “disembogue,” correctly. Avi attends Auburndale Intermediate as an 8th grader. This is his second CNUSD spelling bee championship and he now moves on to the RCOE regional spelling bee, to qualify for the national spelling bee in Washington DC if he wins there.

Eastvale - Anvita Vinodanand was surprised by Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin Gomez with the Superintendent Summer Writing Challenge Award. During her kindergarten year (last school year), Anvita wrote and illustrated a book about shapes. It was then selected to be published through RCOE. Corona - Dodger player Joe Kelly and his wife Ashley paid a visit to Corona High School on Wednesday, January 31st as part of the #DodgersLoveLA tour presented by Bank of America. They surprised students during a pep rally and played games. They also donated a check for $10,000 to the baseball team to help fund their trip to the 2024 National High School Invitational in North Carolina.

Lan Gomez is an excellent school psychologist who possesses a combination of skills, qualities, and attributes, that allow her to effectively support students, teachers, and parents at Corona High School. She is empathetic, proficient in assessing and evaluating student’s needs, analyzing data, making informed decisions, and developing effective interventions. Lan advocates for the needs of students, copes with challenges, and offers support when needed. We are incredibly lucky to have Lan Gomez at CNUSD and she is most deserving of this award.

We have determined it necessary to close Norco Elementary School tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 21st due to unsafe roadway conditions in the front of our school and on First Street. The storm has impacted an active roadway construction site which impedes the right of way into our school.

Updated Dress Code

The Corona-Norco Unified School District has updated its student dress code. During the 2021-2022 school year, CNUSD began the process of updating our District’s Board Policy on student dress code as there was a need to refresh our current policies to be more enforceable, clear, and non-discriminatory. With the assistance of various stakeholder groups, we made changes to how our Dress and Grooming policy was written.

Corona High Decathlon Team Wins Big in County Competition

The Corona High School Decathlon Team took 3rd place overall and 2nd place in the Super Quiz category at the Riverside County Academic Decathlon Competition winning 26 medals in total. Students met virtually every Saturday for the last six months to prepare for the big event. The theme for this year’s decathlon was Cold War.

Board of Education Selects New Superintendent

On Saturday, Oct. 31 the Board of Education in closed session voted unanimously (5-0) to name Dr. Sam Buenrostro as the new superintendent of Corona-Norco Unified School District, pending contract negotiations. The Board has instructed legal counsel to open negotiations with Dr. Buenrostro over the terms of his employment with the District as its next superintendent.

Elementary Waiver Update

On October 9, 2020, the District submitted a waiver application to the Riverside County Department of Public Health (a copy of which is available on the District’s website in the “Frequently Asked Questions” section). In response to the waiver application, the County Department of Health informed us that our elementary cohort model would not qualify. Based on that information, it was clear the County was not going to further consider our application.

As of today, Riverside County will have been in the Red Tier for 14 days, permitting schools in our county to begin a reopening process. Assuming our county’s health data remains unchanged, CNUSD is prepared to welcome the physical return of our students. The information and opening dates below are subject to change if we revert back to the purple tier and stay there for two consecutive weeks.

PR: CNUSD to Recoup $1.1 Million on Insurance Claim

The Corona-Norco Unified School District is set to recover over $1.1 million from an insurance claim for loss due to employee theft. The District filed the claim for financial losses related to the alleged charges of embezzlement of funds by former Assistant Superintendent of Facilities, Ted Rozzi.
